His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah of Brunei will pay an official visit to Thailand during April 28-29 as a guest of the government.
The Sultan will be accompanied by His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Mateen, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the visit, the Sultan will have a royal audience with Their Majesties King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua and Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana.
He will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin at Government House and witness the signing of two MoUs between various agencies from the two countries.
Mr Srettha will also host a special luncheon in honour of his esteemed guests, the ministry said.
Thailand and Brunei established diplomatic relations on Jan 1, 1984. The state visit — the first by the Sultan since 2012 — will be the highlight of their celebration of 40 years of successful friendship.
It is also expected to provide a good opportunity for both countries to expand cooperation in many areas of mutual interest, in particular trade investment, the halal industry, tourism, the digital economy and people-to-people ties.
Both sides will be able to discuss regional cooperation and exchange views on international issues, the ministry said.
