It takes a certain je ne sais quoi to film in one of the busiest streets of Bangkok and not make the internet erupt. Here’s where Lisa went to film her Rockstar music video in Thailand.
With Lisa dropping the teaser for the Rockstar music video, the internet showed immense support for the Thai star. After all, it’s her first single to be released after she quit the agency she worked with for five years, as well as the first product of her own label, LLOUD.
Lisa has never been one to shy away from presenting her culture. Her first solo single Lalisa featured two of the most Thai things: beautiful Thai garments, as well as riots.
The Rockstar teaser, with only 10 seconds, has already caught the eye of the people of Bangkok. This is because it’s set in our very city, and in one of the most well-known streets.
Filming locations found in Lisa’s Rockstar music video
Yaowarat Road
Did you know that Bangkok’s Chinatown is considered to be the largest Chinatown in the world? Only losing to New York City and San Francisco. The extremely bustling street of Yaowarat is filled to the brim with food stalls, dessert spots, and restaurants that have existed for generations.
Sources say that in order to keep the news from spreading, Lalisa Manobal chose to film Rockstar during the very early hours of the day, before 5am, and paid THB 20,000 to each store in the area for the disturbance.
A few notable things that can be seen in the video include long-standing Chinese eatery Chinatown Scala, signs for Texas Suki restaurant, as well as an abundance of neon signs of stores selling birds’ nests.
The Oscar theatre
The escalator scene is identified to take place in The Oscar Theatre, opened in 1976 as a first-class experience for moviergoers at the time. It was abandoned after closing down in the early 2000s, now served as a ruin. Although, food stalls have set up shop in the terrace area outside.
